The Vision of KEDC
Adopted by the KEDC Board of Director's on November 15, 2006

RALLYING STATEMENT:
“Helping Make Our Schools Great”

 PURPOSE:
“Providing Services, Support, and Expertise that help make our schools great.”

 VALUES:
Relationships:

We are committed to developing and maintaining ethical relationships based on trust and mutual respect among staff and with our schools.
Trust requires us to be clear about our roles and to hold ourselves and each other accountable for following through on our commitments.  We respect the right of everyone to be heard, listen to one another for understanding, and acknowledge and resolve our differences candidly.  We create relationships where everyone – staff, customer, partner, and vendor alike – realizes they are valued.

 Responsiveness:
We deliver on helping make our schools great – every single school – by assisting them in diagnosing their needs and then finding or providing solutions to meet those needs.
The schools only need to make one call – to us.  Every individual in every department is clear about how they contribute to our schools’ success, are expected to be serving leaders, and are afforded opportunities to gain knowledge and training for continuous improvement.  We continue to recruit and equip the best of the best as a means of providing the expertise needed to fill the gaps in our schools.  We are good stewards of all the time, talent, and money entrusted to us.  We use those resources to provide unparalleled service and support as we deliver new products and services, seek out new methods and technologies, work to obtain the lowest price and best value for what our schools purchase, and act as their advocate to state and national authorities.

 Results:
We expect success from ourselves and all of our stake-holders and together we make it happen.
Our goal is one hundred percent of our schools ranked as great schools.  Together we are nationally recognized for our successes.  As raving fans our schools recommend us as indispensable partners to other schools that aspire to greatness.  Every person who works here is able to recognize their role in this success and comes to work each day, enthusiastic about being here, ready and willing to learn and serve.

KEDC MISSION
A mission is the keystone upon which a strategic plan is built.  It is a broad statement of the unique purpose for we exist and the specific function we perform.  It is a bold, deliberate combination of vision and commitment -- a declaration of our aspirations.

The mission of the Kentucky Educational Development Corporation is to develop the capacity of schools, school districts, and other partners to transform their educational systems to produce students who can successfully compete in a global society.

KEDC Beliefs
Beliefs establish moral and ethical priorities which serve to guide all organizational activities.

We believe that:

  • Children are our first priority.
  • Every child deserves an equal educational opportunity.
  • Each individual has worth.
  • Education improves the quality of life.
  • Learning is a lifelong process.
  • Expectations shape reality.
  • Leadership is vital to organizational productivity.
  • Trust promotes cooperation.
  • Teamwork enhances organizational productivity.
  • A safe and nurturing environment promotes growth.
  • Excellence is worth the investment.
  • A positive vision is vital for a successful future.
  • Global competitiveness demands a highly educated workforce.

KEDC Objectives
Objectives are the specific, measurable ends that we must achieve to accomplish our mission and be true to our beliefs.  They transform the mission into results.

All districts will succeed as demonstrated by continuous improvement toward a goal of 100 in the Commonwealth Accountability Testing System.

KEDC Strategies
Strategies are the means we will use to accomplish our objectives, therefore realizing our mission.  Strategies represent a significant investment toward an expected significant return.  They are the mission in action.

  • We will design programs to aid districts and schools with school improvement that are focused on student outcomes.

  • We will provide comprehensive professional development for districts, schools, and other partners.

  • We will provide management support services to assist districts and schools in being efficient and effective.

  • We will restructure and develop the KEDC staff in a way that obtains the human and fiscal resources necessary to accomplish our mission.

  • We will develop a public relations system that enables KEDC to obtain the objective.

  • We will expand and develop the technology services available to districts.

  • We will develop a self assessment process for evaluation of progress towards our mission.

KEDC Strategic Parameters
Strategic parameters are limitations the organization places upon itself for good reason.  They represent boundaries within which the organization will operate; things it will do or things it will never do.

  • We will  practice participatory management at every level of the organization.
  • We will respond to external pressure without compromising our beliefs and mission.
  • We will not allow geography to become a factor which detracts from our mission.
  • We will not allow our desire to be competitive to diminish the quality of our services.
  • We will always operate with a balanced budget.
